The Unknown God
April 1, 2020

The Unknown God.
Most civilisation hold the view that God is unknown and mysterious. The image of God has been depicted in different shapes and forms, adorned with earthly treasures, such as gold, silver and bronze. The human race have also evolved through ages. Public worship of images created and mounted in temples for all to worship. Services are usually led by highly acclaimed priests and spiritual leaders.
There are severe and clear consequence for disobeying rules and regulations in worshipping the unknown God. Believers religiously follow their faith and wont spare anyone that stand in the way to oppose their God.
A religious citadel in the city centre of Athens with an inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD, is proudly displayed for all to see. Athens was at its peak of religious practice when apostle Paul preached there, in the midst of judges in court (Mars hill).
To speak of another God can provoke the authorities and stir up violent protest which can result in prosecution and death sentence. Paul clearly was aware of this fact, he was led by the Holy spirit to preach with wisdom about their unknown God.
He started by recognizing their devotions. He spoke of this same God sovereignty but rejected their superstitions.
From the Bible.
Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Acts 17 : 2 -24.
Apostle Paul avoided speaking against their God but spoke against their ignorance. Apostle Paul concluded the message by stating that, the same unknown God is the same God who ordained Jesus and raised him from the dead. He saw people who zealously followed God without an encounter and therefore without any personal relationship. To that end, the God is unknown to them.
He warned that the time of ignorance as an excuse is over. The unknown God has been clear enough through Jesus christ.
From the Bible,
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Acts 17 : 30.
Do you believe in God but have no personal relationship with Him? Is He still unknown to you like the people of Athens? Perhaps you yearn to know Him like Paul knew Him. It is the best decision anyone can ever make in life. Spend some time with Him by daily searching of the Bible scriptures.
From the Bible,
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29 : 13.
Brethren, may the unknown God become known to you in Jesus name.
Amen
